This time the Wo lang? Scholarship is aimed at artists who had to flee Ukraine in the past months (Ukrainian citizenship is not relevant here). We are offering two scholarships for five months from January to May 2023. The Open Call as PDF.
The artistic work must be in the center of your occupation. Apart from that we are open to all artistic disciplines. The scholarship requires a residency in Altenburg. Because of that we invite you to work primarily in Altenburg during your stay. Wo lang? is a network of young people working on various socio-cultural projects. In our projects we intend to work community-based structures and try to avoid fixed hierarchies. We are inspired by the ideas of the commons and the social sculpture of Beuys. We currently revive a formerly vacant building, called “Casino” with various projects. Artists have already been working there over the summer. The Casino offers a ceramic studio, a simply furnished wood and metal workshop, and rooms that can serve as studios. The first concerts have also taken place there over the summer and we are currently planning how to revive the pub. In addition, a screen printing workshop is going to be established, which should be ready by the beginning of 2023. The “Casino” with its various workshops and rooms is open to you as your workspace – but please consider that it can only be heated selectively. We will provide you with a furnished apartment (approx. 3′ walk to the Casino) where each of you will have your own bedroom.
In the end of your residency there will be a public exhibition/performance. We would encourage you to offer workshops or similar for the network during your stay, but it is not mandatory.
We are pleased if we have raised your interest. To apply for the scholarship, please fill out the application form and send it to us.
Deadline for application is November 25th, 2022 – Acceptance/rejection by December 9th, 2022.
This Residence Program is a joint cooperation of wolang and icebauhaus with financial support by the European Cultural Foundation.
